About
keybamine is a typing trainer inspired by the way professional musicians practice, designed to help you improve your typing speed.
How so? You don't practice a musical instrument by mindlessly noodling through entire pieces. Instead, you repeat short sections several times, slowly and deliberately. The same goes for typing. keybamine serves you the words you need to practice, and makes it fun!
The game offers a mix of high-speed and low-speed challenges. What they have in common is that it's always better to complete the lines correctly than to type quickly.
The slow blocks are intended for slow, deliberate practice. They consist primarily of lines which count towards your singletry streak 😈, and regular lines 🌿 (more on those below). Some lines repeat a single word multiple times. These are great for deliberate practice and getting your adaptive fingering right. Pay close attention to what your fingers are doing.
You can choose which words to focus 🧠 on specifically as well: with the cursor at your chosen word, press Shift + Space. You will now see several repeat lines of this word over the next few slow blocks. It also won’t be part of any other kind of line in the meantime. After the number of repetitions displayed in the sidebar, the word will lose focus on its own. However, you can also take a word out of the loop manually - just deactivate it the same way you turn it on.
Fast blocks, on the other hand, are the place to let rip. You can race against yourself to improve your fastest line speed 🚀. keybamine also keeps track of the fastest time you've ever typed each word, and these lines are your chance to improve on that. You can see your current average 🎯 in the sidebar. Just keep it smooth - intermittent high WPM bursts won’t work.
Quests 🐢 let you compete with yourself on your weak points. Once you've gathered enough bait by completing regular lines 🌿 perfectly, you get a chance to sneak up on that horrible, horrible monster. When you chase it down, the lines consist solely of the words you're currently weakest at.
Finally, consistency is key with typing practice, and a single correct line is already enough to update your daily streak 🔥.
A few notes:
- You can toggle between multiple word lists, add a preset or create your own. Keep in mind that editing your word list may reset your quest counter (to maintain game balance).
- In most cases, when you make a mistake, you can continue by pressing enter. In regular lines and during calibration you need to go back with backspace and correct it.
Heads up: keybamine is currently in alpha. Breaking changes may occur.
